Course info
This certificate course provides a foundational understanding of secondary metabolites- bioactive compounds produced by plants that, while not essential for growth or reproduction, serve crucial roles in defense and environmental interactions. Many of these compounds are valued for their medicinal properties. The course introduces major classes of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, and resins, focusing on their pharmacological relevance and therapeutic applications. Through a combination of theoretical concepts and real-world examples, this course lays the groundwork for further studies in natural product chemistry, pharmacognosy, and related fields. The course integrates theoretical concepts with practical applications using video lectures, hands-on assignments, case studies, and quizzes.
